Switzerland is a beautiful country with stunning landscapes that include mountains, forests, and absolutely gorgeous lakes. If you ever visit Switzerland, you will be amazed by the number of natural alpine lakes that this country has to offer and you will be confused by that much beauty. Depending on what is that you want, Switzerland has big and small lakes, some of them are hidden in the Alps, others have magnificent cities along the shores, and they all have a unique tone of blue color that makes them even more special. Here are some of the most spectacular lakes in Switzerland that you should visit one day if you have a chance.
Oeschinen Lake
The Oeschinen Lake is in the middle of the Oeschinen valley, only a few miles from Kandersteg. It’s a remote, alpine lake that’s definitely worth the trip. Around the lake, there are many hiking trails where you can spend hours and hours admiring the beauty of the green-blue lake. Almost half of the year Oeschinen Lake is frozen, which makes it a popular ice fishing spot among the local people. Knowing that there is a large population of trout living here, the lake gain more visitors every season.
Lake Geneva
Lake Geneva is one of the largest lakes in Europe, and probably the most popular lake in Switzerland. The stunning body of water dominates the city itself. Visit the iconic Jet d’Eau, a huge fountain that is one of the main symbols of the city and the lake. During the summer months, Lake Geneva has a special note. For the ones who like rowing, swimming, diving, and sailing the waters of Lale Geneva, the best time to do it is between June and September.
Lake Constance
Lake Constance is the third largest lake in central Europe, and it’s divided between Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. The stunning lake contains few islands including the Bavarian Lindau. The three countries still can’t set the exact the borders, and they have a number of disputes about which country has the right to fish within certain parts of the lake.
Lake Lugano
In the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, there is a lovely lake called Lugano by the charming town Lugano. The visitors are offered boat tours across the lake stopping at cute little places that will remind you of the Grimm Brothers’ stories, including the historic village of Gandria. It is also notable for having a large variety of fish, including crayfish, carp, and catfish. Also, the lake is an important site for fossils from the Triassic Period.
Blausee
Blue Lake or the Blausee is one of the most spectacular lakes that Switzerland has to offer. The color of the water is simply hard to believe. The lake is small, surrounded by forests, and transparent all the way to the bottom. Rowing enthusiasts can rent a boat and spend an unforgettable afternoon on the Blue Lake. The lake can be reached by bus from the towns of Frutigen and Kandersteg.
No matter what time of the year you decide to visit Switzerland, you will get shocked by the spectacular appearance of its lakes. Winters look more magical because of the snow and the frozen surface of the lake that allows ice fishing while in summer all the sceneries look more playful and full of colors. The summer months are better because you can actually go for a vacation on one of the lakes, swim, sunbathe, and explore hiking trails in the are with an opportunity to spot some wildlife.
