Freeplay Magazine Announces New Women’s Mountain Bike Program

This is one for our Women readers and a great opportunity to get involved in Mountain biking, or if you’re already interested in the sport to improve your skills and meet like-minded people.

The women’s endurance sport publication, Freeplay Magazine, who sponsor Team Freeplay, announced yesterday the addition of their new women’s mountain bike program that will consist of four half-day clinics and two multi-day camps.

On Saturday, April 29th, Freeplay will hold the first 2017 half-day clinic in Granite Bay, California. Freeplay’s half-day clinics will offer riders of all levels with the opportunity to learn mountain bike skills in small groups before heading out for a coached ride later in the day.

Riders will receive feedback and tips throughout the ride. Additional half-day clinics will be held in Carlsbad, San Clemente and Truckee, California.

Freeplay’s Women’s Mountain Bike Escapes, are multi-day camps, to be held July 14th through 16th in Truckee, California and September 22nd through September 24th in Sedona, Arizona. Riders who attend these camps will have an opportunity to experience yoga for cyclists, two skills sessions, two coached rides on scenic mountain or desert terrain, Q&A sessions with coaches and community building time.

Freeplay coaches, Kimberly Larson, Sian Turner and Paige Ramsey are certified mountain bike coaches who have more than 35 years of combined mountain bike coaching and racing experience. Asa Salas Shoemaker, Christy Fritts and Megan Jaffe are also part of this year’s coaching staff, bringing an additional 35+ years of mountain bike experience the program. Fritts is currently the top ranked off-road triathlete by USA Triathlon in her age group.

Stephanie Artis, co-founder of Freeplay magazine stated, “One of our goals is to encourage more women to ride bikes by creating opportunities for them to learn in risk-free environments. With the help of our sponsors, Nature’s Bakery, Drink Maple, Coola Suncare, Fluid Nutrition and GU and our amazing coaches we were able to add the Freeplay Women’s Mountain Bike Escapes and Clinics to our 2017 schedule which also includes the Folsom Bike Tri Like a Girl program.”

These clinics are designed for women new to mountain biking as well as intermediate riders looking to gain new skills for upcoming Xterra triathlons and mountain bike events.
